Why use a drain camera?
A sewer pipe may send thousands of gallons of liquid through it over just a short amount of time. Within that liquid may be solids and materials that may create problems within the pipeline. This solid material may create a slow drain action or a complete blockage of flow. One modern way of dealing with such a blockage is to first get a visual of the blockage. This is where an inspection with a drain camera is useful.
What makes a good drain camera?
First off it needs to be able to survive the conditions within the pipes. This includes dirt, sludge, grim, and of course water. If a camera scope cannot live past those conditions it’s not worth your time to use it. This also means the cameras that can resist the punishing environment is going to have a considerable amount of quality built into it.

Conclusion
Drain cameras are going to take on some tough jobs throughout their lives. In order for us to easily rate the characteristics which make a device tough under the elements the governing bodies have created the IP rating. It is basically a chart that tells you how much moisture and dust it can keep out of itself at a range of temps and humidity. Look for this as you shop for an endoscope. On average a rating of 67 or better is great, 65 and up is pretty good. Then look at its subversive ability offered by the manufacturer.
